What to call your blog?
Today I investigate the different names for business blogs.
I’ve been writing blogs on behalf of businesses for nearly seven years. And I’m noticing that many clients don’t want to call their blog a blog.
But why? What’s wrong with calling a blog a blog?
My lawyer client: “Blogs are for mummy bloggers. I want to be professional.”
My digital agency client: “Insight articles is a better name for thought leadership.”
To find out more, I reached out to other copywriters.

“Yes!!! I’ve been noticing that the term ‘resources’ is becoming popular. I’ve also seen ‘Words from me’ as a witty title I guess! And ‘Insights’ from more conservative places. I think just use whatever suits you and your brand – go with what feels right. “
Lisa from The Word Nest
A few of my blogging clients like to call them news articles. They feel readers are more likely to click on something that’s ‘new’ whereas blogs could be considered more evergreen.
Claudia from Claudia Bouma Copywriting
Many of my IT clients prefer to name their blogs ‘News’ because to them it carries more weight and these articles are more likely to be read.
Megan from Crockford Communications
In a time when society is so focussed on wanting to be different and needing to stand out from the crowd – think ridiculous baby names and spelling like Abcde and self-made job titles like whisper, wrangler and ninja – I like to go back to basics. If it’s a blog, why not call it a blog?
Antaonela from Antoanela Safca
I have seen it called Insights or Market knowledge in real estate, or even Learning or Education in finance. I do think there could be a bit of user bias against the term ‘Blog’ as maybe fluff or the obvious content marketing piece.
Kate from Kate Crocker
My legal clients like “articles” and sometimes “news.” Because legal content requires more words to explain what’s happened in a case or to explain a legal concept. So the content tends to be longer form
So, what’s my advice?
Glad you asked.
Most of the time you should call your blog a blog.
But, if you’re in the professional services space, you might want to call it news or insights, to appear more professional. Single words in your navigation are best.
